MTEC Action Center
This is where we track the active initiatives, campaigns, or calls to action that you can participate in. We break them out based on the level of government that would need to act in order to see the change we want to see.
Each link will take you to a page that details a specific action you can take or provides more information on the issue as one of our areas of focus.

United States Government
❌ Stop all of the Bad Internet Bills making their way through Congress - There are over a dozen bills that would change the way the internet works for the worse. Some would implicitly or explicitly require identity verification. Others would take away the Internet's First Amendment, censoring content and communities alike. None of these can move forward - call your reps and tell them you oppose each one. Below are some of the bills on this list.
❌ Stop online ID checks and age verification - Many countries around the world are trying to make the internet safer, but in doing so they are trying to strip away that last piece of privacy we have in the 21st century - the ability to use the internet without giving your real identity. Through measures like required ID checks or age verification, much of the internet would be age gated and everything that you do online would be tied to your government name. There would be no privacy - chilling free expression and free speech and while closing the grasp of governments and Big Tech on the people. These measures cannot go forward unless we want to live in a system like what they have in China.
❌ Stop KOSA - The "Kids Online Safety" Act will lead to censorship and a likely requirement of age verification for large swathes of the internet. If the goal is to make the internet safe for children, then you need to identify when a user is a child, which means you need to ask every user to identify themselves in order to identify who is a minor. This would kill privacy nationwide as all of your online activity will be tied to your real legal identity, and thus can be abused on the whims of the government.
❌ Stop the GUARD Act - The GUARD Act aims to protect children who use AI tools, but similarly to KOSA, it will require age verification and kill privacy for anyone who uses an AI tool. And the definition of AI tool could go from ChatGPT to Google Search as more and more services integrate LLMs.
✅ Protect Section 230 - This is the law that basically allows for everyone to have free speech on the internet. This is the law that prevents Big Tech or similar platforms from censoring content. It allows for communities of diverse opinions and perspectives to flourish in forums, Reddit, Instagram, or Discord. It makes it so that the people can use the democratizing power of the internet to make their voices heard, and organize across the nation. If Section 230 is repealed, the internet would be silenced.
✅ Keep Android Open - Google is trying to lock down the ability for you to sideload applications onto your phone for "security." This would make it so that the two mainstream mobile operating systems have complete control over what applications can or cannot exist on their platforms. Not only does this open the door to corporate abuse, but it can also lead to censorship as now governments only have to petition or threaten Apple or Google in order to control their citizenry's access to information and tools.
State of Florida
The 2026 regular legislative session of Florida has ended. You can read our review of how it went.
No statewide calls to action at this time.
South Florida
✅ DEFCON Franklin - This is an initiative to shore up the nation's water infrastructure. You can help by calling our water management agency to help them get the support they may need in terms of cybersecurity. Unfortunately many of our utilities don't have the means to worry about cybersecurity, and yet they would be targets by an adversarial government.
Miami-Dade County
✅ DeFlock Miami - Be on the look out for these cameras. More Americans are learning about the level of video surveillance they are subjected to, and with Flock Safety's AI cameras popping up across the country, they are feeling the effects of being spied on, and paying taxes in order to be spied on. We are free and do not deserve to be monitored like criminals, nor do we want to wait and see how this invasive system is abused in Miami.
Broward County
✅ Deflock Broward - Get Flock out of Broward County!
Palm Beach County
❌ STOP Project Tango - Residents of Palm Beach are coming together to oppose the construction of an AI data center in the western part of the county. NO to Project Tango and Stop Project Tango are two websites for organizing against this.
